Introduction

Objectives

Familiarization with three navigation aids

ILS, VOR and DME also the RADAR system used to facilitate the work of air traffic controller, in addition to the VHF communication system used in the control tower which includes:

1.      Type of navigation aids – factory of production –differences between models – theory of operation

2.      Signal strength- main technical data which include (type of modulation – VSWR- output power- distance coverage)

3.    Type of use antenna – effect of the nature of sight on the used antenna – introduction to site selection criteria including critical and sensitive areas.

4.      Fault isolation regarding the signals behavior.

5.      List surveillance systems are using today’s.

·       Describe the importance of RADAR, the approbation of RADAR, the Equation of RADAR.

·       Describe RADAR equation.

·       Describe classifications of RADAR systems.

·       Describe the theory of operation for primary RADAR.

·       Describe the MTI RADAR.

·       Describe the secondary RADAR

·       List the advantages of secondary radar than primary RADAR.

·       Compare between power, frequency, and antenna type of primary and secondary RADARs

·       Describe the transmission problems.

·       Describe Mode S secondary radar and its advantages.

·       What is the need for new systems as MLAT systems?

·       Describe theory of operation of MLAT and ADSB surveillance systems.

·       Compare between PSR, MSSR, ADSB and MLAT

·       Describe some recent surveillance techniques

·       Describe general communication system functions and characteristics,

·       Perform all the necessary adjustments on the delivered equipment,

·       Describe the communication system maintenance philosophy,

·       Perform preventative maintenance of the system,

·       Locate faults

·       Understand C.VOR and D.VOR Concept

·       Understand C.VOR and D.VOR Method

·       Understand Doppler effect and electronic simulation of ntenna movement

·       Analyze main signal parameter for C.VOR and D.VOR

·       Justify and theorize the D.VOR versus C.VOR

·       Operate the equipment
