Flight Information Services FIS


Introduction

This course will provide who will become Flight Information Officers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes so as to provide flight informatio service to air traffic in accordance with ICAO Annex 11 (Section 2.9 & Chapter 4), ICAO Doc 4444, and ICAO Doc 9426 (ATS Planning Manual).

Objectives

After the completion of the course, the trainees will be able to:

  • Provide timely, accurate, and relevant advice and information to aircraft for the safe and efficient conduct of flights within a designated Flight Information Region (FIR) or at a non-towered aerodrome.
  • Issue pertinent traffic information to aircraft operating under VFR and IFR to assist pilots in maintaining mutual separation.
  •  Initiate and coordinate Search and Rescue (SAR) alerting phases (Uncertainty, Alert, and Distress) according to ICAO Annex 12.

Prerequisite

In compliance with international civil aviation licensing standards, candidates must possess:

  • Age: Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Language Proficiency: Minimum ICAO Level 4 Operational English (Annex 1).
  • Medical Fitness: Valid Class 3 Medical Certificate (or national equivalent for ATS personnel).
  •  Education: Successful completion of secondary education with a strong emphasis on mathematics and geography.
