Airport Planning and Design of Infrastructure, Runways and Facilities
Introduction
Airport infrastructure and facilities design is a very important issue which mainly affect the stable and safe operation of the airport. There should be an effective study for all facilities required for both airside and terminal building.
Airport planning is based upon the probable demand that may occur over time which include for example:
- Runway capacity
- Apron design
- Visual navigational aids
- Terminal capacity
- Level of service
- Terminal design concept
Objectives
By the end of this course trainees will be able to:
- Understand the airport facilities requirements.
- Understand Annual Service Volume (ASV) as a reasonable estimate of an airport’s annual practical capacity.
- Analys the capability of the airfield facilities to accommodate projected levels of aircraft operations.
- Analys the runway demand and capacity.
- Design the airfield layout, the number of runways and runway configuration.
- Design the apron and exit taxiways.
- Understand runway use restrictions and obstacle limitation surfaces (OLS)
- Airside Layout and Design
- Understand visual navigational aids
- Understand the passenger terminal design concept.
- Understand the terminal Area Requirements according to the level of services (LOS)
