ARINC 424 Navigation Database Coding

Introduction

  • This training provides access to a wide variety of Instrument Flight Procedure coding. It optimizes the understanding of RNAV and Conventional trajectories and allows to predict the expected trajectory of the aircraft. The ARINC 424 manual specifies in detailed the requirements of coding for Instrument Flight Procedures

Objectives

At the end of the course the students will be able to:

  • Correctly understand the basic ARINC coding methodologies and history
  • Correctly recognize and use the different path and terminators for departure procedures
  • Correctly recognize and use the different path and terminators for arrival procedures
  • Correctly recognize and use the different path and terminators for approach procedures
  • Solve simple exercises about the use and application of path and terminators
  • Understand the different impact of path and terminators on an RNAV procedure

Who Sould Attend

  • Air Navigation Services Providers (ANSPs)
  • Navigators
  • Air Navigation Service providers; Air Traffic Controllers;; Civil Aviation Authorities; Airline Managers and operational staff

Course Content

  • ARINC Standard 424 Introduction
  • Meaning of Proposed Coding
  • Introduction to NAV System
  • Transition Logic for Approach Procedures
  • Coding Procedures
  • Explanation of FMS, Charting and Simulation of an RNAV Arrival Procedure

Prerequisite

Basic Requirements:

  • Have at least 3 years’ experience in an aviation domain such as: Piloting, IFPD, AIS/AIM, Charting, ATC.
  • Basic knowledge of Instrument Flight Procedure Design
  • Basic knowledge of RNAV navigation is a plus

Additional Requirements:

  • Before the beginning of the training, we suggest reviewing the following subjects in order to be ready and receive an efficient training:
  • Arithmetic, algebra, geometry and trigonometry
  • Basic programming: meaning of while/if/return commands, meaning of algorithm and basic knowledge of at least one programming language

Note:

  • The basic requirements are intended to create an efficient class, without having huge differences within the students. This will allow to all of them to properly achieve an acceptable level of preparation.
  • Students without basic requirements can anyway apply for the training at their own responsibility.
  • Additional requirements are intended to access the training with already a good starting preparation.
