Approach Control - Non-Radar


Introduction

Objectives

At the end of this course the Trainee will be able to:

  • Manually prepare arrival, departure, and over flight progress strips using approved abbreviations and symbols. 
  • State the concepts and requirements associated with Traffic within TMA according to the Procedural Control Environment.
  • Identify the components of Vertical Separation including Procedures, Minima and Approach Control Phraseology in compliance with ICAO Air Traffic Management (Document 4444.).
  • Explain the procedures of control and handling of Departing Aircraft.
  • Explain the procedures of control and handling of Arriving Aircraft.
  • To apply the procedures of Separation between Departing Aircraft and Arriving Aircraft.
  • Explain the requirements and procedures for Visual Separation, Visual Approaches, and Special VFR. 
  •  To apply Horizontal Separation Methods including protected airspace procedures and minima on diverging track.
  • Identify the separation minima for aircraft on the same, converging, crossing, or reciprocal track; for aircraft climbing or descending through the level of another aircraft; and when applying DME procedures.
  • Identify the terms associated with holding aircraft, the procedures for holding aircraft and the phraseology used for issuing holding instructions.
  • Apply Non-Radar Separation Minima between Departing and Arriving aircraft and identify different types of approaches.
  •  State the requirements for conducting timed approaches and apply Missed Approach Procedures.
  • Understand the different types of coordination used by the procedural.
  • Explain the coordination necessary between Approach Control and other units, military authority and aerodromes within TMA airspace.
  • List emergency conditions and categories and how to handle Emergency Cases. 
  •  Identify the specific phraseology for controlling Departure and Arrival aircraft within the TMA.
  • To prepare manually Departure, Arrival, and over flight progress strips using approved abbreviations and symbols.

Prerequisite

  • The participants should have Aerodrome control course ICAO 052.
  • The Trainee should have Introduction to ATS (Aviation Fundamentals) and Aerodrome course.
