Introduction
Airports need to have the infrastructure in place to provide efficient operations in line with safety and security. As air traffic continues to grow, airports need to ensure that each system is flexible enough to accommodate future requirements.
This course offers an overview of airport planning and design for those entering or wishing to become more familiar with the field, as well as an opportunity for those with more experience to expand their knowledge of specific topics.
Objectives
Upon completing this course, you will be able to:
- Understanding the planning methodologies and tools
- Evaluate the different types of airport planning
- Know the basic airside and landside systems (what roles do they play).
- Evaluate airport geometric sizing based on various design components
- Compare airport capacity with the existing and forecasted demand and ascertain whether improvements to increase capacity are needed.
- Describe fundamental terminal planning and design concepts.
- Identify terminal capacity and Level of Service (LOS).
