Introduction

  • This course will provide student air traffic controllers with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes in order to enable them to receive a student certificate of competency for ICAO Approach Control Surveillance rating in accordance with ICAO Doc.4444, ICAO Doc.10056 Vol.1, Annex 2, Annex 11.

Objectives

After the completion of the course, the trainees will be able to:

 

  1. Apply the rules of the air and the regulations regarding reporting, airspace and appreciate the licensing and competence principles.
  2. Manage air traffic to ensure safe, orderly and expeditious services.
  3. Acquire, decode and make proper use of meteorological information relevant to the provision of ATS.
  4. Analyse all navigational aspects in order to organize the traffic.
  5. Assess and integrate aircraft performance in the provision of ATS.
  6. Recognize the necessity to constantly extend their knowledge and analyse factors which affect personal and team performance.
  7. Integrate knowledge and understanding of the basic working principles of equipment and systems and comply with the equipment and system degradation procedures in the provision of ATS.
  8. Identify the need for close cooperation with other parties concerning ATM operations and appreciate aspects of environmental protection.
  9. Develop professional attitudes to manage traffic in abnormal and emergency situationsRecognize and understand the design and layout of aerodromes.

  • Air traffic controllers have Approach Control procedural course ICAO 053.

Prerequisite

  • Students must complete successfully ICAO 053 Course.
  • Students must have a valid Class 3 Medical issued by an approved Aviation Medical Examiner (AME).
  • Students should be fluent in English to the ICAO English Language Level 4 standard or good command of English equivalent to IELTS 5.5.
